If you’ve read the first part of this letter, you already know what the Higher Self is (and what it’s not).

So now the next question is: how do you actually connect to it?

This is the part most people skip. Not because they don’t want to do the work, but because spiritual content these days makes it sound like you either need to meditate 4 hours a day or go on a silent retreat in Bhutan. But I’m going to show you how it can start with just a few minutes of the right kind of attention.

Step 1: Know what you’re connecting to.

The first step is to remember what you’re connecting to. Make sure you understand what a Higher Self is. (It’s not God or your spirit guide). I have written about it here, in the previous letter. If you have read it well, congrats – you have checked off step 1.

Step 2: Ground yourself. Always.

This one is compulsory. Not optional. Not “if got time.” Grounding is the foundation. Everyone wants to open their third eye, activate their pineal gland, or get divine downloads. But you cannot skip the part where your feet are still floating.

Grounding just means bringing your energy fully back into your body. Your real body. Not your imaginary “higher” body that’s floating in some enlightened daydream. Go and do something physical. Lie flat on the floor. Walk barefoot on grass. Clean your kitchen. Breathe into your hips. Dance. Touch a tree. Whatever. And no need to look spiritual while doing it.

Because if you’re trying to hear your Higher Self but your mind is spinning and your legs don’t even know they exist, what you’re going to pick up may not be a pure signal. Could be interference. Could even be someone else’s energy. You won’t know. So ground first. Then we talk.

How do you know when you’re grounded?

When your mind is entirely here, focusing on your tasks. Not anxious, and not overthinking. The mind feels quiet, but not numb. You’re simply calm in the moment.

It might even feel a bit empty but in a peaceful way. Doesn’t mean you’ve become Buddha. The moment life throws something at you, this grounded feeling might disappear. That’s why grounding is not a one-time fix. It’s a practice. Like workouts or clearing. Something you come back to, again and again.

Step 3: Clear the emotional clutter.

If your energy field is full of emotional leftovers, don’t expect your Higher Self to scream over the mess. It doesn’t. It waits. And no, emotional clutter doesn’t mean you’re broken. It happens to everyone else and it just means that it’s time to look within and clear the old.

So how do you know what’s still in there? Look at what drained you recently. What made you irritated, sad, defensive, small, guilty, or helpless? These are not random. They are signs of old energy flaring up. Maybe your colleague’s comment reminded your body of something your father said 20 years ago. You won’t remember it logically, but your system does.

Clearing doesn’t mean you have to cry in public or write a novel about your trauma. Just be willing to see what still lives inside. Once you acknowledge it, you can ask for it to be released. And when it comes up? Don’t panic. You’re not being punished. You’re being cleaned out. That’s progress, even if it looks like a mess.

Step 4: Get still.

Stillness is underrated. Not silence, but stillness. There’s a difference. You don’t need a cave or a Himalayan retreat. Just stop moving for a few minutes. Put down the phone. Pause the mental tabs. Let your system settle.

Your Higher Self is not going to drop wisdom in your inbox while you’re multitasking between complaining, scrolling, and eating lunch standing up. It speaks in stillness. Not because it’s shy, but because that’s where the signal is clear.

And let’s clarify something. Stillness doesn’t mean forcing your mind to shut up. That’s not your job. Your mind is a monkey, let it jump. You just sit there and notice. No need to scold the monkey. Just watch it and be aware. Instead of thinking your thoughts, you simply observe them, as if you are separated from them (you are).

Step 5: Start the conversation.

Now you’re ready to ask something. You don’t need a crystal. Just a notebook and honesty. Ask one question. Something real. “What do I need to see?” or “Where am I fooling myself?”

Then just start writing. Let the answer come. Don’t censor it. Don’t analyse. If it feels calm, wise, slightly clearer than your usual brain voice, you’re on the right track.

If it sounds like anxiety with good grammar, that’s probably not it. Try again later. You will learn the difference. The voice of your Higher Self is not dramatic. It doesn’t use fear. It doesn’t shame. It’s clear, kind, and surprisingly practical.

Step 6: Feel the yes and no in your body.

This is not woo-woo. It’s biology. Your body is designed to respond to truth.

Think of a time you almost made a bad decision but your stomach felt off, or your jaw tightened. That’s your system saying, “Please no.”

Now think of a time you followed a choice that felt peaceful even though it didn’t make sense — and it worked out better than expected. That’s your body saying yes.

Your body will react faster than your brain can explain. Start listening. Truth doesn’t always come with words. Sometimes, it’s a sigh of relief, a breath you didn’t realise you were holding, a sudden feeling of expansion.

Step 7: Speak it out loud.

This one sounds simple but it shifts energy fast. When you speak your clarity, it locks in.

Say it out loud. Even if it’s just, “I am ready to hear my truth,” or “I’m open to guidance that’s aligned with what’s best for me.” Not to your followers on Instagram, just to yourself. This sends a message to your field: I’m ready, I’m listening.

No need to manifest a mansion or a Tesla. Just start with tuning yourself into alignment.

Step 8: Don’t force. Just follow.

Last one. This is the step that separates the people who get real results from the ones still forcing a vibe.

You can’t bully your Higher Self into giving you answers. It’s not a vending machine. The more you grip, the more you block. Let go of needing the answer now. Instead, pay attention to what naturally feels clear. Follow what feels honest, grounded, and steady. That’s your next right step.

The connection builds over time. Not because your Higher Self is far, but because your system needs to become still enough to hear it. You’re not learning how to reach it. You’re unlearning what made you stop listening in the first place.

What Needs to Come First Before You Can Fully Connect to Your Higher Self:

Drunvalo Melchizedek learned this from many different traditions, and elders in the aboriginal worlds:

You can’t get to connect fully with your Higher Self until you are connected fully to your Lower Self.

What does it mean to connect to your Lower Self, and how can you tell if you have connected to it?

Well, to make it simple for you to digest, it means to connect to your original, pure inner child.

It means, play in this world like a child would play.

A lot of us thought we are already living our child-like selves. We eat nice food, we party, we travel, we play games, we crack jokes, we go karaoke, we dine together, we go shopping, etc.

That’s not what being a child again means. Those are usually activities of escapism, the wounded child seeking joy. Not that.

Being a child again is being curious always, expanding, learning, falling, and learning again. Changing positions. Running without looking back. Growing. Loving what is. Accepting. Giving. Emitting genuine smile, joy, and letting go immediately when hurt by crying and moving on quickly.

No hate. No hurting others. No manipulation. No greed. No fear. No shame. No resentment.

These are what it means to be connected to your Lower Self. It’s all about loving the moment and doing what you love.

So, before you try to connect with your Higher Self, pause and ask if you’ve come back to your Lower Self first. That part of you that still knows how to feel, explore, and move with presence. Not the wounded child looking to escape, but the original one who simply enjoys being here.

This is the foundation. If that part is blocked, no amount of journaling or meditation will bring real clarity. This is the work I do — helping people clear the blocks that keep them disconnected from themselves. It’s not a shortcut. And it’s not for those just looking for a quick energetic fix.

But if you’ve done the work, and something still feels missing, maybe this is the part that’s been quietly waiting. If you’re not sure but feel drawn to explore, reply to this email or reach out. We’ll see if this is the right step for you.

Until the next healing letter,

Shaya Ang
