Let’s take a moment together.

I want you to pause, breathe, and really feel into your life for a second.

Have you ever wondered why some struggles seem to follow you no matter where you go or what you do? Like a shadow you can’t outrun.

Maybe it’s the same kind of relationship that leaves you drained and heartbroken, even when you swore the next one would be different.

Maybe it’s the same voice in your head whispering, You’ll never be enough, no matter how hard you try.

Or maybe it’s this weight: a heaviness in your chest you can’t explain, like you’re grieving something you don’t even remember losing.

If any of this resonates with you, I need you to hear this:

There’s nothing wrong with you. And you are not alone.

What if I told you that much of what you’re experiencing today has been quietly passed down through your family, woven into the fabric of your life?

The Invisible Weight You Carry

Most of us are carrying the unspoken stories of our ancestors. Their grief. Their fears. Their beliefs about life, love, and worth.

These questions can help you discover unhealed ancestral traumas that are present in yourself or your family. You can extend it to include your close relatives too, who belong to the same lineage:

  • Does your family have a history of financial struggles, where money always feels scarce?
  • Do you notice patterns of silence, anger, or emotional distance that show up again and again?
  • Do you find yourself battling illnesses, stress, behaviors that have no clear cause?

These are not coincidences. They are patterns handed down like family heirlooms, except they’re hidden in your emotions, your thoughts, and even your body.

Science is beginning to prove what many ancient cultures have always known: the experiences of your ancestors shape your life in ways you might not realise.

Why the Past Is Written in Your Present

Let me tell you a story about Lily, a client I worked with.

Lily came to me because she was stuck in a relentless cycle of anxiety. No matter what she did - therapy, meditation, even medication; she couldn’t escape the constant undercurrent of fear in her life. She described it as living with her foot on the gas and the brake at the same time.

When we began exploring her family history, she uncovered something that changed everything.

Her grandmother had survived famine as a child. She lived with the constant fear of not having enough. Not enough food, not enough safety, not enough security. That fear didn’t leave her; it became the lens through which she saw the world.

Even though she had never experienced famine herself, that fear became hers. It was passed down in small, subtle ways:

- in her mother’s warnings about saving every penny,

- in the family’s obsession with playing it safe,

- in the anxiety that coursed through her body like a second heartbeat.

When Lily understood that her anxiety wasn’t just hers, everything shifted. She realised she wasn’t broken or doomed but was simply carrying a story that wasn’t hers to carry.

Through deep energy clearing, we worked to clear that inherited fear. And as she released it, she felt something she’d never felt before: freedom. Gradually, she started making decisions from a place of trust instead of fear.

What Science and Wisdom Teach Us

Scientists have found that trauma doesn’t just mess with your mind. It can actually change how your genes work. That means your ancestors’ experiences (grief, fear, starvation, or shame) can leave a biological imprint on your DNA.

This doesn’t mean you are doomed to live out their struggles. Far from it.

What it means is that your body is carrying a map of their experiences. And just like any map, you can change the direction you’re headed.

It's fascinating how science is finally catching up with things people have intuitively felt for centuries. There’s this concept called epigenetics: it’s basically about how the environment and experiences, like trauma or stress, can actually change the way your genes express themselves. It doesn’t rewrite your DNA, but it influences how it behaves.

Picture this: your life, your choices, your emotions are all like a ball rolling through a landscape of hills and valleys. That’s how a scientist named C.H. Waddington described it back in the 1940s. He called it the “epigenetic landscape.” The ball’s path, or how your genes express, gets shaped by external forces (things like stress, nurturing, trauma).

And this idea is not new. Even Aristotle talked about something called "epigenesis" way back in ancient Greece. He believed that the environment plays a big role in shaping life, and now, centuries later, science is showing just how right he was.

One of the most popular voices in this field, Bruce Lipton, puts it perfectly:

"We are not the victims of our genes; we are the masters of our fate, able to reprogram our genetic expression through consciousness."

Isn’t that incredible? It means that even if you have inherited pain, fear, or trauma, you’re not stuck with it. You have the power to change how those things affect your life, and even the lives of the people who come after you.

Scientific Evidence for Ancestral Patterns

There’s this fascinating study I came across where it shows how stress and trauma can literally leave a mark on your DNA.

Imagine your ancestors going through something really intense, like fear, starvation, or loss. Their bodies had to adapt to survive, and those adaptations got “written” into their genes. But those changes didn’t stop with them. They were passed down, like an invisible inheritance.

For example, let’s say one of your ancestors lived through extreme stress. Their body might have become hyper-alert, constantly on edge, ready to react to danger. Those survival instincts, encoded in their DNA, could show up in you as anxiety or chronic stress, even though you’ve never lived through their experience, or never met them.

Isn’t that wild? It’s like your body remembers something your mind has never known.

But don’t worry, just like these patterns can be passed down, they can also be healed. You don’t have to stay stuck in the stress or fear that wasn’t even yours to begin with.

Even though this pain didn’t begin with you, it can end with you.

This isn’t just science. Long before science had words like “epigenetics,” cultures around the world already understood the importance of healing our connection to our ancestors. They knew that the pain, struggles, and unresolved energy from the past don’t just disappear. They stay with us and silently shape our lives.

In Chinese culture, there’s this beautiful practice called ancestor veneration. It’s all about showing respect and care for the ones who came before you. During rituals like Qingming, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, families visit their ancestors’ graves to clean them, light incense, and leave offerings of food or symbolic money.

Why?

Because they believe that when their ancestors are at peace, the entire family thrives. It’s about restoring balance by honouring the past and creating harmony for the present.

In many African traditions, ancestors are viewed as protectors and guides. At the same time, there is the belief that if their spirits are neglected or if their pain remains unresolved, they can disrupt the lives of their descendants.

This is where Sangomas, the traditional healers, step in. They perform rituals to reconnect with ancestors, address unresolved pain, and clear the energy that has been lingering for too long. It is such a meaningful and powerful way to finally release what families have been carrying through generations.

In the Andes, Peruvian shamans practice something called the despacho ceremony, which I find so fascinating. They create beautiful, detailed offerings made from natural elements like flowers, herbs, and seeds. These are carefully arranged in patterns that symbolise gratitude and balance. Once completed, the offering is burned or buried to represent releasing old energy and inviting in new healing. It is such a sacred and intentional way of saying, “Thank you for what you’ve given, and now I am ready to let go of what no longer serves.”

What these traditions show us is that ancestral healing isn’t just a ritual; it’s a practice that has stood the test of time. Across cultures and generations, people have turned to these practices to address deep wounds, restore balance, and transform their lives.

The fact that these methods continue to be used today tells us something important: they work! They have helped countless people heal not just their own lives but their entire family lines.

How to Begin Breaking the Chain

Let me ask you something. What patterns are you ready to break?

  • Are you tired of living in fear of failure or loss?
  • Are you ready to stop repeating the same relationship struggles?
  • Are you ready to feel lighter, freer, and more aligned with the life you want?

This is the work you were born to do. And it begins with awareness.

Step 1: See the Patterns

Start by looking at your life. Where do you feel stuck? What challenges keep repeating?

Now take a step back and think about your family history. What struggles did your parents or grandparents face? Where do you see the echoes showing up in your own life?

Have you ever noticed how some struggles in families seem to repeat, like a story playing out again and again?

Fear that keeps people small.

Abandonment that leaves wounds no one talks about.

Illness that seems to pass from one generation to the next.

These patterns often go unnoticed because they feel so normal. “It’s just how our family is”, right? But they are not random. They are clues!

I came across an article by Demian Wright where he reflects on ancestral trauma in such a real and relatable way. He shares how deeply rooted patterns like mental illness, abandonment, and physical health struggles shaped his family over generations.

The first step is to notice the patterns. These patterns might feel normal because they have always been part of your family’s story, but they are worth looking at closely.

When you start connecting the dots by tracing where fear, pain, or loss might have started, you begin to see what has been passed down through the generations. Once you see it, you can change it.

For example:

  • If your family has a history of financial struggle, notice how scarcity shows up in your thoughts and choices.
  • If anger or silence were common in your family, notice how they play out in your relationships.

Your awareness is the ignition key.

Step 2: Release the Blame

Let’s be clear. This work is not about blaming your parents or your ancestors. They were doing the best they could with the tools they had.

But their pain doesn’t have to be your pain.

Forgiveness is not about excusing what happened; it’s about freeing yourself from the chains of resentment.

Ancestral healing is really about reconnecting with where you come from, not just to understand your lineage, but to finally release the patterns and traumas that have been passed down.

This process can be so eye-opening. It helps you see how certain emotional wounds or behaviours have shaped your family for generations.

One of the most powerful ways to start is through intentional practices like meditation or quiet reflection. These create space for you to connect with your lineage and bring awareness to the imprints they have left behind.

This work is about acknowledging the people who came before you while choosing to let go of the pain that is no longer yours to carry.

Step 3: Clear the Energy

This is where everything starts to shift.

When you dive into practices like energy healing, meditation, or ancestral clearing, you’re not just working on the surface but you are releasing the deep, hidden energy that’s been holding you back for years, maybe even generations. This is where the weight you have been carrying starts to lift.

When I work with clients, we don’t just look at the symptoms. We go straight to the source. Clearing those patterns at the energetic level creates real, lasting freedom.

People often tell me it feels like a massive weight has been lifted, not just emotionally, but physically too.

The thing is, it’s not just feeling better after the session. Clearing that energy changes how you show up in your life. It opens up space for better relationships, clearer decisions, and a sense of ease you may not have felt in years.

Step 4: Create a New Legacy

Healing isn’t just about clearing and letting go. It’s about creating something new and tangible.

That’s why, in my clearing sessions, we don’t stop at releasing energies. It’s often followed by clear signals and guidance about remedies or healing actions you can take. These can be practices, routines, physical remedies or steps tailored specifically for you.

The fascinating part is this guidance doesn’t come from me. It often comes from the higher selves or even your ancestors.

Yes, there are times when ancestors or deceased parents show up with messages to help steer the healing process and point you toward what will truly help you move forward.

Here’s what to do for this step:

Ask yourself:

  • What kind of legacy do I want to leave for my children or the people I love?
  • What beliefs, habits, or energy do I want to pass on?

When you choose new patterns: love, abundance, courage; you create a ripple effect that transforms your entire lineage.

Imagine What’s Possible

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine this.

Imagine your ancestors standing behind you, not as a weight, but as a source of strength. Imagine them handing you the torch, trusting you to break the cycle they couldn’t.

Now imagine yourself lighter. Freer.

The fear you have been carrying is gone. The patterns that kept you stuck are broken.

Picture your children, your siblings, even your parents feeling the ripple effect of your healing.

Imagine your family line, generation after generation, living in freedom because of the work you chose to do today.

Doesn’t that feel like a gift worth giving?

Your Time Is Now

Listen, you were not born to just repeat the same cycles your family has been stuck in. You were born to snap those chains, toss them aside, and walk into something better for yourself and everyone after you.

And let me be real with you: this is NOT easy work. It takes guts. But the fact that you are reading up to this point means you are already taking the first step: awareness. It means you’re ready to face it, ready to let it go, and ready to claim something new for yourself.

Healing is not just about feeling lighter (though trust me, that part is awesome). It’s about freedom. Real, life-changing freedom.

You truly do not need to be tied to your ancestors’ pain, struggles, or the unhelpful habits, attitudes, and behaviours of your parents or family. The way they lived doesn’t have to shape the way you live.

When you choose to heal, you’re not just freeing yourself; you are giving future generations the chance to live differently. That’s the kind of freedom that transforms everything. The kind that rebuilds and renews, not the kind that runs away or escapes.

I’ll see you in the next healing letter next week.

With love (and a little tough love too),

Shaya Ang
